:zz: mtg rept 03.30: with Andrew, after dinner | Preflets

Huzzah!

We managed to cover:

SLICES, defining versions
? Level 0 slices: connected at one point, on d.slice through home cells
? Level 1 slices: hard-edged slices (no interpenetration),
with simple preflet (I-want-to-be-next-to) ONLY IN
 OUTER SLICES;
? Level 2 slices (my 1998 design): interpenetrating slices
plus link-locks via four modes of preflet (which may at
this level be in any slice):
?? I-must-be-next-to
?? I-must-be-higher-than
?? I-want-to-be-next-to
?? I-want-to-be-higher-than
?? (I-want-to-be-higher-than, I-want-to-be-lower-than
 might also be needed)

REFERENTIAL WINDOWS
These will hold open views of an email or other document
 (for now, plain text documents).
? A document can have any number of open frames associated
with it. The association is on two dimensions: d.view
and d.viewlist. If only one, it's plusward from doct in d.view.
? A frame has height, width and character-span [start+length].
? A frame may or may not have a cache of the actual characters.
If so, it is further plusward in d.view.
I ARGUED FOR MAKING CACHED WINDOWS A SLICE.
Andrew persuaded me that this is Premature Optimization.

PARALLEL PROCESSING:
? The operators are clear (dispatcher vink, catcher vink).
HOWEVER, what to do with the data is not clear
because of the different possible stitchings and contradictions.
More study needed, esp. of the cases I generally had in mind.
